Back in 2017/2018 around a I joined a small group of people to work on a project called 'The Fleet'. This game should focus on real time space exploration/combat and turn based squad combat. We got heavily influenced by the old Star Trek games, partly X-com enemy unknow and especially Rebel Galaxy for the ship combat. But it should also feature a strong story including multiple dialogue options during moments of exploration or even in combat situations! The project was very very ambitious, so we had to decide in what part we will focus for the prototype presentation. We eventually decided to go for the space exploration featuring minor combat situations.
I was mainly responsible for directing the visual look of the game, creating concept art for the marketing/presentation, art design documentation and a bit of low poly modeling as well. I also jumped into the Unreal Engine to play a bit with the shaders (holographic planets for example) and get more used to it. Also some simple menus and HUD screens were created for a better interaction and experience. The content shown is pretty rough and was never finished or designed copletely of course. We tried a few things here and there, also tried some techniques for the 3d sky dome that were featured in the first Homeworld game.
I think we achieved something really cool looking I wanted to share with you guys! Also check out Daniels portfolio page! He was part of that project and assisted a lot with great knowledge and figuring out things!
